Who will help me?

This boy is carrying a load of 30KG from Mangalsen, Achham to Chalsa, Achham, a seven hours walk. The load, he is carrying, contains the materials donated by UNICEF, for fellow children in his village. He was weeping because of arduous trip with 30 KG load on his back. His father was killed by Maoists in 2005, now he is the one who is feeding his granny, mother and sister by carrying loads. He was hired by Simal primary school to carry the load, for which he will get Rs. 150, out of which he spent Rs. 35 to eat "half plate" meal at Mangalsen.

This boy, Bakhat B.K. is 11 years old. His father was killed by Maoists in 2005, now he is the one who is feeding his granny, mother and sister by carrying loads. He is carrying a load of 30KG from Mangalsen, Achham to Chalsa, Achham, a seven hours walk. Ironically, the load, he is carrying, contains the reading materials donated by UNICEF, for fellow children in schools of his village, Chalsa. He was weeping on his arduous trip with 30 KG load on his back. He was hired by Simal Primary School to carry the load, for which he will get Rs. 150, out of which he spent Rs. 35 to eat "half plate" meal at Mangalsen. There are more than 500 children with similar fate in Aacham alone.

Fun with Google

Today I was reading and suddenly tried  to write my address in Nepali which came up as

which we are not used to so much sounded somewhat funny, i again tried to translate it back to English using Google Translator and i was  amused with what came up

Static Dahaal
Electrical and computer engineering Bibhaag
State Misisipie Biswbiddyaly
Starkbhail, Misisipie -39759,
United States |

haha!!!!, my name came up as Static Dahal,haha

Here is a code to download a file and write it into a file. this code can download anyfile irrespective of the it’s type. It downloads the file specified in URL and saves it as File.pdf.

from sgmllib import SGMLParser

class Crawler(SGMLParser):
        def reset(self):
                SGMLParser.reset(self)
                self.URL = "http://somesite.com/resume.pdf"
                self.ReterievedFile = "File.pdf"

if __name__ == "__main__":
        import urllib
        parser = Crawler()

        try:
                usock = urllib.urlretrieve(self.URL,parser.ReterievedFile)
        except IOError:
                print "error"

        parser.close()

just like that

I just started to learn two scripting languages: Perl and Python. These days i am pushing myself to learn new things. I have just jumped into writing a web crawler in python, till date neither i know what is python nor web-crawler. I did few assignments of data mining in perl, keeping in mind the power regular expression operation of perl. although struggled with the first assignment, the outcome was preety good, hope so for Python also,

yah, took qualifiers today. Electrical and Computer engineering Qualifiers are notorious for their toughness, everybody was saying “oh!! It’s tough right”. Nervous when my advisor asked to take this October, but i am glad that he suggested to take it. I will pass it next time, it was pretty good trial exam. Life don’t give too many takes, this was one of those rare ones.

We five from Starkville went to The Great smoky mountain national Park to spend long weekend of Labor day. It was real fun, in starkville we are not used to see hills, in US people say it mountain. Being Nepali it was not an awesome view or experience from scenic point of view, because we have been walking on more steep hills and used to see snow covered Mountains right from our home patio. What i really enjoyed was the marketing strategy that has been used for the hills, wow it was awesome. The amenities like road, water fountain, restrooms right at the apex of hill has made it really accessible to people, the Gatlinburg, entrance to the national park was developed as “Thamel” market, which was really good, it was small but really beautiful. A tour guide at the Gatlinburg said, the population of town is 3,700 but at any weekend it reaches 100,000 amazing fact!!

Back in Nepal, we have thousands of Gatlinburg, which are not explored yet. People from D2 have explored few of them, in their weekly hiking. I know Daman which can be developed as a tourist spot, The new finance minister is talking about the financial revolution, but we don’t need anything more than Tourism, every other industry can be shut down, to promote Tourism, Our country is blessed with such a beauty that we can just install sign boards in path and market it through out the world as a great trekking spot. Tourism can boom if we elevated the quality of our airport and law and order of our country, so that tourists won’t be harrassed after entering Nepal. We have checks of hundreds of billions of dollars given by nature which we don’t know how to cash, we can develop a small town like daman as a pilot project near Kathmandu and replicate it through out Nepal. Tourism can act as pivot for the economic revolution which do not need any thing more that few hundred thousand rupees. If a big business house takes initiatives it can be fulfilled. I see Nepal much affluent nation in 5 years if we replicated the pilot project in 5 places in 5 regions.

Hilarious comment

The Maoists international relations bureau chief C.P. Gajurel aka Gaurav said, “We will continue our struggle from the government, the parliament and will not hesitate to take to streets if need be”.

Against whom are they going to street, against Prachanda or against themselves. These Maoists are out of mind, they have turned to Junglee being in Jungle for so many years

Homecoming

Returning to home is always an exciting thing even to think of, I am returning after 13 months away from beloved ones. The period of reunion is short but has brought immense pleasure for all of us. Home is always “The Best” place to be in, but several times emotions had to be sidelined. I was quite lucky to be with Pooja. She never made me felt that i was away from home. It was like leaving one home and coming to the other. Still, the family members, relatives and home was always missed in this entire period of time by both of us. One had to soothed by other. Sometimes, both shed silently so that other don’t burst into tears.

Both the life here and Nepal have their own pros and cons. Here, life is good, we have the suceeding thurst, but there is something missing, “Home”. I sometimes fantasize what if i could unite “The goods” of the other sides of globes(obviously not geographically ;) ). But, fantasy is fantasy at least for the time being. The reality is i have to travel thousands of miles to reach my home, back home, sweet home, and i have been waiting for the moment, i will embrace my home.

I was chatting with a friend who is currently coordinating a technological festival at IOE. I was also doing same around 4 years ago. while delegating the organizing committee to new batch i was not in favor of increasing the size of committee because of possibility of confrontation with in the group. I don’t remember the exact number of members in the committee that we formed, but i know it was not 18 which is current number. I suggested to cut the number into 6. haha, then the story began. He was stunned and the junior batch members were nagging him for even to cutting down from 18 to 15. My team also faced the same problem in handing over to juniors. I don’t want to particularize it to students of IOE or people of Nepal and i don’t know the trend around the world either. Everybody wants a position whether it’s of a small students body or a governmental position and almost nobody is willing to accomplish the responsibility with honesty. The friend of mine was complaining that people, who need the committee to be handed over did not get involved. Is it a human behavior, a geographic culture, country’s trend any other acculturation or managerial deficiency, yet to be discovered. But it has been persistent through out the years.

Ant & Grasshopper

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the
winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in
the cold.

Modern Version

People’s Power

Nepal just saw a landslide victory of ex-rebels in the CA polls. It was an unexpected win even for Maoists who had persuaded the then government to defer the polls twice in one year. But , the more important thing in the people’s verdict is that they have overthrown the Nepali Congress and UML literally from root. Almost all “heavy weight” leaders have lost their election, Madhav Nepal, KP Oli, Sushil Koirala have lost moral ground to continue to as prominent leader, those who have taken the election as granted have hopefully got a glimpse of People’s power. Sujata Koirala, Govinda Raj Joshi, Chiranjibi Wagle, Khum bahadur Khadga who have been universally known as corrupt and could even kill hundreds of people without a second thought have been ousted, this is the verdict of People. Now, the set of incompetent leaders have to be wiped out of Nepalese politics and fresh people should take the lead. After all this is the beauty of Democracy.

On the other hand, Every Nepalese eye are on Prachanda and his party, they have to realize that they are in that position because they are only one option out of many. If they betrayed us, like UML and NC has done over the years, they will be buried underground like Koiralas and Gyanendra. Don’t think people are your followers if they can set you on top they can also bury under ground. If you can’t keep up with the aspiration of people, at least do not betray them. Remember, Gyanendra was also applauded after February 1 move because he was one of the alternatives, he betrayed us and his fate is no more than prisoner inside a luxury dungeon. This is people’s power, this is democracy. Hats off Nepalese voters and beware Maoists, you can be in Gyanendra’s shoes sometime in future.
